Metsä Board develops sustainable packaging concept for handmade honey

Korpikuusikko Honey, a Finnish supplier of artisan premium honey, relies on Metsä Board's expertise in cartonboard and packaging design to develop a packaging collection. All elements of the uniformly designed collection are made from Metsä Board board qualities, the design is from Metsä Board's design service. In addition to primary packaging, the collection for Korpikuusikko Honey also includes a gift set, packaging for online retailing and shipping as well as POS displays in the form of floor and table displays.

"My vision is not just to make honey, but gifts. An elegant, high-quality packaging creates added value for the consumer," explains Teemu Aittamaa, founder of Korpikuusikko Honey. "It was very important to me that the packaging was also sustainable and made from renewable raw materials and that we communicated this to the buyers of our honey. So the origin of the packaging material is printed on the front of the gift set."
With its attractive packaging concept, Metsä Board has also developed a design that seamlessly ties in with the brand history of Korpikuusikko Honey. The choice of materials and the design achieve an even better customer experience through their natural surface feel and print effects that invite to touch and feel.
"Careful details such as gold foil bees and honeycombs express the high quality of the brand and the pure white surface of the carton stands for the purity of world class honey. The strong but lightweight carton protects the honey to keep it in top condition throughout the logistics chain," explains Ilkka Harju, Packaging Services Director, EMEA and APAC at Metsä Board. "Another important point is that all packaging can be recycled after it has served its purpose.
Metsä Board has selected the following packaging qualities from its wide range of cartons: MetsäBoard Natural FBB, MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright, MetsäBoard Natural WKL Bright and MetsäBoard Prime WKL. The packaging is manufactured by Prem, CadPack and Pa-Hu in Finland and Werner Kenkel in Poland.
